Celebrate this year’s Hispanic heritage with inspiring speakers.
In the United States, the term “Hispanic” or “LatinX” were adopted in an attempt to loosely group immigrants and their descendants who hail from this part of the world. Today’s generations are reclaiming their heritage and ancestral traditions.
Here are 5 public speakers that are unlearning assimilation, reclaiming their heritage and ways to becoming our most authentic selves. Many times that starts by becoming self-made.
Mariana Atencio
Cultivating Authenticity: Reconnecting with our Latino Roots
It takes people 7 seconds to form an opinion about you. That’s why most of us are taught to
fit into a box, instead of embracing those parts of ourselves that stand out. This is only
heightened for Latinos, because there is less understanding of the nuances and
contributions of our community. As a former national TV journalist, Mariana is no stranger to labels. She was the only Latina correspondent at MSNBC for many years and often encouraged to leave parts of herself at the door. It wasn’t long before she realized that covering; did not bring out her best in the workplace or foster real belonging.
Through relatable anecdotes, actionable tools and dynamic exercises, including her newest “LatinXcellence Framework”, Mariana will lead the audience on a journey to embrace their
secret salsa and celebrate what we all bring to the table.
